Building a SQL 2005 Database on Windows 2003

After the system has been updated, Insert SQL 2005 CD disk 1. At the splash screen click on Install “Server Components, tools, Books, Online and Samples”.

Check the box stating you accept and press Next

In this example, the system does not already have .Net Framework installed. Press the Install button to install the .Net framework from CD. (If you already have .Net Framework this step will be skipped).

After .Net Framework installation press Next

Press Next to begin SQL install

The installer will check your system to make sure you meet the prerequisites. In this case we receive a warning because IIS is not installed and some features will not be available. We don’t care at this point. Press next.

Enter serial number and press next

Check all boxes, but before continuing press Advanced

Change the installation path to Z

Select or unselect features. If you are not sure what you need and don’t need you may want to just install everything.

Choose default instance

Select local system account, and check the box so that SQL Agent is started automatically

Select Mixed Mode Authentication and enter a password for the sa account

Leave default collation and press next

Check boxes if you want to report errors to Microsoft. Otherwise, leave unchecked and press next

Press Install

Installer runs. When propted, insert disk2

When installation is complete press Next
